Appearance
Black scaled humanoids with a triangular head covered in bony plates, ridges and horns. The color changes to a dark gray on their torso and front of the neck. The eyes vary in bright colors of red, orange, yellow and sometimes white. Their backs are adorned with spikes down the spine and wings colored a dark gray. Their hands end in short claws but they do not look very effective.
Attitude
Ill tempered and aggressive by nature Draconians respect only strength and the willingness to use it. They also have little fear of creatures much larger than themselves and will work as a group to attack opponents of any size. Females are obsessive about the number of eggs they tend. It is not uncommon for a female to steal eggs from another to raise with her own. This usually happens when a male wanders by. The females begin calling out to him to show the number of eggs they have. Once the eggs hatch the new born young identify with the closest female they encounter, this behavior of egg theft stops after a females eggs hatch. While the young mature parental females will watch over them and protect them from anything they deem dangerous. Those foolish enough to attack the young are jumped by all nearby females and torn to shreds. Males have little to do with their offspring. This is a warrior based society, all Draconians even commoners, merchants and trades are expect to fight in service to the city or their own promotion. Non-draconian visitors are safe (for the most part) as they have no social standing to advance on. This is provided you look like you can hold your own and not act like prey.
Architecture
Draconian architecture is unexpectedly ornate. Starting with a cliff face they carve into the rock high above the ground. Entrances are narrow and heavily guarded. Any visiting a Draconian City are expected to fly up or conduct their business below, provided you can gain the Draconians attention. Once inside the entrance visitors follow a straight hall lined with holes on each side large enough for spears to be shoved through. At the end of the hall is a large room with heavy city gate doors and a large ballista loaded and pointing down the hallway towards the entrance. Inside the gates you step out into a vast cavern. The walls of which are covered with small landing to the person living quarters. The farther up one goes the more wealthy are the occupants. Looking down you see a bowl that descends into darkness and is where the poor and forgotten live in squalor. The sparse light that is available comes from a fungus that grows in what look like wall sconces. Every wall, floor, ceiling and support one will see carvings of Draconic History, Lore and Heroes engraved in vivid detail. Industry and business is kept down side corridors.
Leadership
Only the largest and most powerful of draconians rule the people. Challengers are frequent and fights to the death occur. A challenger can withdraw if things do not go well and he can escape the Leader. The leader can never withdraw or his people will turn on him, rip him to pieces and remove his name from history. The longer a leader lives and fends off challengers the greater his glory and the honors bestowed by his people. When a new leader rises to power a ceremony is held in memory of the last one. Towards the end of which the new leader has his wings removed in a most painful fashion. If he makes no sounds during this ordeal it is seen as a good omen for the city and he is given a months time before challengers begin attacking. If he does make a sound then the new leader is given 1 day. This method of promotion is practiced amongst all levels of draconian society.
