The dire wolf is an four-legged predator built for distance running. They are most often found in temperate or arctic climates and any terrain, but marsh. They are covered in thick fur that is mainly Gray in color darker on the back and lighter on the stomach and chest. Other colors can be brown, black, white, tan and sometimes the colors are solid. Males are usually larger than females.

A lone dire wolf is rare as they are natural pack animals. In fact lone dire wolves are either young adults that are leaving their birth pack to find a new pack or aging adults that have been drive off. While hunting they have learned to work together to wear down a target until it is to weak to defend itself.

Dire Wolves are lead by an alpha male. The alpha male will breed with one alpha female and are called the breeding pair. Other dire wolves, even adult, are not allowed to breed. The alpha male almost always goes unchallenged from the other pack members. Once dead the other members of the pack fight to determine the next alpha male. If the alpha female is still alive, she is demoted to a beta female until she is to old to hunt with the pack and is driven off, like any other old dire wolf.
