Building a race in Red Ash starts with the 6000 population. This population are to points paid to purchase better stats, powers, classes and so on.
Of the 6000 population only 5000 are used to determine the experience gain for a character of that race. So 1000 points are given to buy at least one power.
- First thing you will need to do is determine your races size category. Size changes the default values of strength and agility. It also sets other values such as reach, step and space.
- Next you can make adjustments to abilities for new defaults for your race.
- Define the maturity value for your race. This number is mainly of concern to kings as it will affect his recruitment of military units.
- Birth Rate is another important value for kings. This value is determines the base of new population growth.
- Life Span is basically a end of life and must be higher than Birth Rate, usually it is 8 higher. Going lower is not advised as it will make it hard to grow your population. Going higher introduces new issues for a king, in rapid growth.
- Figure you PAP and MAP.
- Now you should look into adding racial powers. Not all racial power are of benefit to your race, some are designed as weaknesses in exchange for more population.
- Next are classes. If you do not want to spend time on classes you can select all or a few of the predefined classes at 50 population each. Just keep in mind that unless you have the critical thinker power, you will not have much of an opportunity to add any additional classes.
- Now go back and finish the ability sight, and also figure height, weight and encumbrance values
- Figure the experience gain based on your population spent. At 5000 population a character will have a 100% experience gain. For every 50 population below 5000 reduce the gain by 1%. For every 50 population over 500 add 1%. This means that if a character is rewarded 1000 experience, they get all 1000. If the character only has 80% experience gain then they only gain 800 of the 1000 available.
- Add some details to better round out your race. What do they look like? How do they dress? What is their leadership like? What about their architecture? And Attitude? what do they eat? and anything else that can help add color to to these people.
Have fun building!
