Huge warm-blooded reptilian like bipeds with colorful feathers along their backs, arms, and the back of the head, scales are under the feathers and exposed where feathers are not visible. The head feathers commonly form a crown that contain very bright plumes on females or a crown on males. The heads are triangular in shape with large nostrils over a mouth full of serrated teeth.
Commoner DressCommoner dress is a lose fitting toga or loin cloth to expose the feathers. Most saurians also do not wear shoes or gloves.
Trades DressThick leathers covers the front belly and any feathered areas, including the head. Gloves are not commonly used unless working with fire, cold, or electrical items.
Merchant DressMerchants often wear tunics, with short pants and long feathered cloaks. Color of feathers in the cloak informs other as to what the merchant sells. Green is food, red is weapons, blue is armor, brown is drinks, other colors have not been assigned....
Combatant DressAs per the armor/shield, but decorated with feathers, usually from their own bodies. Since the armor will ruin the feathers, armored saurians ritualistically remove their feathers in a long and painful ceremony. And ending with the feathers decorating their armor and shields.
Devotes DressDevotes wear long robes, red in color and a mantle of white. The mantle is often embellished with markings to indicate rank.
Arcanist DressArcanist dress is a long robe, black in color with various symbols stitched into it. The symbols serve as a means of marking rank and personal history
Noble DressNoble dress is a complex layer of clothing, consisting of a loin cloth, tabard with a family symbol, a inner cloak of a shear material, and a outer layered ribbon cloak made to look like feathered wings ready to take flight. The richness of the dress is a measure of the nobles position with Kings and Queens having the most gold and gemstone embellishments and most vivid colors.
ArchitectureSaurian citys are a collection of massive structures that start near the top of a hill or mountain and wind there way down. The higher up one goes the closer one gets to the palace and nobles. Massive underground aquafers move water to the top and it is directed down all sides of the city, splitting as it goes down and feeding gardens on its way. Sub-aquafers add to the downward streams.
Saurian building themselves are grand, even for the lowly commoner enjoys rooms with large vaulted ceilings some 3 times their own height. The apex of the ceiling is left open to allow the weather inside with a circlular covered area for sitting and sleeping. The weathy enjoy multi-room structures built around a centeral room. Each room spirals up higher and has not only the open celing, but also a open balconey. Exiting the building is via a large arched doorway. The doorway is designed more to keep the young from wandering. Merchants and tradesmen also will include their shop or workspace on the first floor and often have a second room for living space. The doorway usualy seperates the shop from the living quarters.
Saurians have a old royal blood line. Nobles seek to add their own lineage to the royal line and often compete for the privillage. This competition usually depends greatly on honor in battle and loyalty to the royal line, even if alone with a young.
AttitudeSaurians are an old race and have seen many races come and go. Because of this they generally think highly of themselves and look down on other races.
Most saurians go through life developing a skill, finding a mate and growing their family. They are motivated my gaining status for themselves and their families and look for ways to do this. Families that dishonor themselves find they lost favor and status, with the royals. In all this creates a great deal of tension between family groups.
Saurians do not give birth to live young, they lay eggs that are kept safe from others, else they are taken and eatten.
Saurian young find they are well protected within their family, mainly because they can become food of another family group. The saurian attitude on this is it keeps the saurian people strong. Those that are caught unaware are weak and a poor example of a saurian. It is not uncommon to see one family attempting to lure the child of another family away from its protection. Fortunately families usually have large broods to compensate for the lose.
Saurians are carnivores, eating any meat source they can, even their own young.
DiplomacyDiplomacy with a saurian neighbor usually starts with war. Once a saurian city is aware of its neighbor they tend to raid for food. Killing on the spot and taking the remains back for their family groups and a small percentage are givin as tribute to the royal family. The saurians will not listen to pleading from weak neighbors, "please don't eat us", is liken to wet their appetites. Survivors are left to repopulate their city and then the saurians will once again attack.
The only recourse is to declare war and defeat at least two of their armies in combat. This will grant the neighboring race a diplomatic option. But again your diplomats must show strength and not let their guard down. If they do, the neighbors must win another two conflicts....and then you can send another "NEW" diplomat. After sufficient time at peace, the saurians will see the neighbors as a fellow preditor and sometimes...competition. This does not mean they will attack, but they may look for other means to weaken your city and gain the upper hand....this time to wipe you out.
